Key Info Points
- There have been seven Magical Lantern Walks; 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025. Due to the coronavirus global pandemic no lantern walk took place in 2020.
- The Magical Lantern Walk is based on Saint Martin's Day celebrations (St Martin's Day is 11 Nov), where children process from the town-church to the town-square with lanterns to light the way.
- Held in the picturesque town of Oakham, Rutland, the Magical Lantern Walk passes several landmarks in the town.
- The Magical Lantern Walk celebrates the changing of the seasons and the community walking together.
- Iniated as an exciting memory-making event for the children of the county, children of all ages.
- In 2022 the Magical Lantern Walk moved into the project portfolio of local Community Interest Company, Root-and-Branch Out (www.rootandbranchout.co.uk).
- Oakham resident Clare Caro initiated the Magical Lantern Walk and continues to run the event with Root-and-Branch Out CIC.
