The First Magical Lantern Walk 2018
Let Us Walk Together
Sunday, 11 November, 2018 As the sunset the crowd gathered outside Oakahm All Saints' Church. Lanterns were lit, friends joined up, song words handed out, and then the cue came, "let us walk together." An estimated 200 people walked together along the processional route finishing at Oakham Castle. Lantern light encircled and lit some of the Rutland Poppy Project's 10,000 ceramic poppies displayed in the Castle grounds for the Armistice Day centenary. Thank you...
This community building project happened with the support, help and permission given so generously by so many - a HUGE thank you to Oakham Castle, Root and Branch Out CIC, Oakham Town Council, Rutland County Council, Oakham All Saints' Church, Oakham Fire Station, Oakham All Saints Scouts, Café Allez, Nick Caro Photography, Caroline Trutz and every person who came together to walk together on this, the first, Magical Lantern Walk.
Next Year...
A New Map
We will be drafting a new map for the procession to follow in 2019, something a little longer. More Lanterns Is it possible to create a mass of lanterns to light the way? We think so. Next year sign up to the lantern challenge. More Songs First there was one, then there were more. We will be introducing more songs and planting a few chiors in the line next year. Final Display This year the finishing point had the amazing poppy display - next year something a little different to mark the end of the walk.
